The College of Business proudly shares the news that Stephen C. Van Arsdell ’72, ’73 MAS, a long-time advisor, supporter, and friend, now leads Deloitte & Touche LLP, the accounting, auditing, capital markets and risk advisory subsidiary of Deloitte LLP.
“Steve is the epitome of a great Illini, a genuinely likeable guy, and an insightful advisor that we value greatly. We are very happy for him and his family,” said Larry DeBrock, dean of the College of Business.
Ira Solomon, head of the department of accountancy, has known Van Arsdell for 25 years. “I have found him to be perhaps the deepest and clearest thinker on issues germane to the production of high-quality audit processes and outcomes. Indeed, I have often observed to him that he is a scholar who wears the clothing of a practicing Certified Public Accountant. He will be a most outstanding leader at Deloitte LLP.”
Van Arsdell has served on the Deans Business Council since 2002 and has been an active member of the College of Business Alumni Association board since 1996.
Van Arsdell moves to his new position as CEO after serving the past year as Deputy Managing Partner of Deloitte. Throughout his 35-plus year career, he has served as the Lead Client Service Partner on some of Deloitte’s most prominent clients and across various sectors, including aerospace & defense, manufacturing, financial services, and consumer products.
An Urbana, IL native, Van Arsdell has nurtured strong ties to the community and the College of Business all his life. Earlier this year, he was honored for lifetime achievement by the Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation at their sixth Annual Distinguished Alumni Luncheon. His father, Dr. Paul M. Van Arsdell Sr., was head of the finance department in the College from 1960 to 1971.
Van Arsdell and his wife, Liz, live in Naperville, IL and have six children.
