Hobart L. and Mary Kay Peer Award

Hobart and Mary Peer established the Hobart L. and Mary Kay Peer Award.  Mr. Peer received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Commerce and Business Administration in 1935.  In 1955, he co-founded the Peer, Hunt, and Curzon accounting firm that merged with Clifton, Gunderson, and Company in 1980.  He organized and was the first chair of the Eastern Illinois Chapter of the Illinois CPA Society.  He was also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  Mary Kay Peer received her bachelor and master’s degree in English at the University of Illinois is 1934 and 1936, respectively.  She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.  As a graduate student, she was hired as a clerk in the English Department and later became an administrative assistant.  Mr. and Mrs. Peer were venerated supporters of their alma mater and the community in which they lived.
