Rush Class: Fall 2009

1. Why did you join AKPsi?

I joined AKPsi because Dennis Mckinney told me about it. I didn't know about business fraternities until the middle of my second semester of freshman year, so I rushed in the fall of my sophomore year.

2. What is your favorite/funniest AKPsi memory?

Probably at Spring Barndance when we were competing in the Taps tournament. We were playing PGN in the championship, so in order to try and motivate me, David Mejia turns to me, and without any time to react, headbutts me. Then he says "LETS GO!!"....we ended up losing...

3. What is your favorite AKPsi event?

Definitely Biz Bowl. The competitiveness that is shown by everyone is incredible. There is so much preparation that goes into it and it is great to see that practice time help us perform.

4. What positions have you held in AKPsi?

I have held two positions in AKPsi: Athletics Chair and Biz Bowl/Biz Olympics Chair. My favorite part of those was Manda Phadke and I creating the Workout Buddy Program to match people up with similar exercise routines.

5. What is the most important thing AKPsi has taught you?

I think the most important thing that AKPsi has taught me is that there are always going to be people around you that you can turn to for help. Some people think of networking and think just about recruiting with different companies, but AKPsi has helped me learn that networking is about having people to help you through your life, whether it be family troubles, academics, or any obstacles life really throws at you.

6. Who is your AKPsi role model?

I have had so many people that I would consider my role model that I couldn't narrow it down to one. My pledge family when I pledged was made up of seniors and they really helped me and gave me a great semester (Blair, Alyssa, Phil, Steve, Wehrli, and Chirag). Also, my pledge trainer Sara Roashan has become one of my favorite people of all time. She went from someone who frightened the hell out of me to someone I freaked out every time I saw her out. And it would be wrong of me to not give a shout out to Dennis Mckinney, who was the reason I joined AKPsi. Two frawts #SSSSSSKKKKKKKK

7. Where have you interned?

I have interned for two summers and a winter break at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange as a Corporate Accounting Intern. This summer, I will be interning at KPMG in its Audit Practice.

8. What are your future professional goals?

I would say my future goals are to pass the CPA, work in public accounting for a few years and see what happens.

9. What is the most helpful professional advice you have ever received?

Never let anyone out-work you. You don't have to be the smartest person in the room to be the most successful.

10. What are some words of advice for students new to the University of Illinois.

Don't shut yourself off to people. Get involved in different things on campus because there is so much it has to offer. Don't over-extend yourself though. Do things you are passionate about and devote your time to those things.

11. What is your favorite class and/or professor?

My favorite class was definitely BADM 449 Business Policy and Strategy with Professor Kevin Fertig. He made class interesting every time I went with humor and real life experience.

12. If you could change one thing about your college experience, what would it be and why?

I would definitely say not joining AKPsi my freshman year. Obviously, I did not even know it existed, so I wish someone would have told me about it sooner.

13. What is your favorite movie, book and band?

There is no way I could ever limit my favorite movie choice to just one, but if I had to give my top three, they would probably be Gladiator, The Dark Knight, and A Few Good Men.

My favorite book would be any Harry Potter book. I literally have had multiple hour long conversations about Harry...ask Kyle Deininger.

I listen to a lot of hip hop (yeah I know...) so I would say some of my favorite artists include: Kanye West, Drake, Timeflies (Check them out on youtube. so sick) and OCD: Moosh & Twist (check them out too. Filthy good)

14. What is your ultimate goal in life?

My ultimate goal in life is to win a Super Bowl...since that seems like a long shot, I would probably say to be a CFO of a company and raise a happy and healthy family.

15. Anything else we should know about you?

Love Chicago Sports, I have dislocated my left shoulder 14 times, and am inspired by Matt Lemenager. KID IS JACKED
