When Larry Voitik (‘93 EMBA) passed away in 1994 following a battle with cancer, members of his old study group from the EMBA made sure he would live on. Along with Voitik’s wife, Pam, the EMBA Program and alumni helped create the Larry F. Voitik Memorial Scholarship. Until now, the scholarship has honored Voitik’s memory by directly supporting students who share his passion for entrepreneurship and his personal standard of excellent academic performance.
In an effort to better leverage funds, stewards of the scholarship have joined forces with Illinois Business Consulting (IBC) to annually support a talented student who works on consulting projects for start-up organizations. These projects can range from building a business model to the development of a marketing plan as well as a financial strategy to help the start-up company secure financial backing.
Founded in 1996 by Dr. Paul Magelli, IBC is the premier student fee-for-service consulting organization in the nation, successfully completing nearly 750 consulting projects for over 500 clients since its inception. It provides unique and challenging opportunities for select graduate and undergraduate students from across campus to apply their classroom learning to real-world issues. The students team up to tackle projects for companies ranging from Fortune 50 firms to start-up organizations.
“The synergy between IBC and Voitik is a natural,” said Pam Voitik. “The IBC staff shares the scholarship committee’s goal of advancing hands-on education with business community involvement and advancement.” You can help make a difference by donating to the Voitik Scholarship Fund.
