Teresa Poggenpohl, '86 MBA
Managing Director—Global Image, Accenture
Teresa Poggenpohl is Managing Director—Global Image for Accenture, a $25 billion global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. Ms. Poggenpohl is responsible for shaping the company’s brand and position in the marketplace and leads advertising, brand management, internet marketing and marketing research.
In her 25-year career at Accenture, Ms. Poggenpohl has crafted award-winning image-building advertising campaigns, created the first global research team and established a European Marketing function while based in London, England.
In 2001, Ms. Poggenpohl spearheaded the rebranding of Andersen Consulting to Accenture—one of the largest and most successful rebranding initiatives ever undertaken by a business-to-business company. Just 18 months after the brand launch, Accenture was ranked No. 53 in Interbrand’s 100 Best Global Brands report.
Ms. Poggenpohl established Accenture’s High Performance Delivered branding campaign in 2003; today it continues to be a pillar of the company’s marketing efforts. In 2011, the Accenture brand was ranked No. 45 in Interbrand’s 100 Best Global Brands report at a value of $8 billion—representing 55 percent growth since the brand debuted on the list in 2002. She has received wide recognition for her achievements, being named “Best Marketer” in 2007, 2008 and 2011 by B-to-B magazine and was the 2012 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Illinois College of Business.
Ms. Poggenpohl serves on the board of directors and as Marketing Committee chair for the Chicago Children’s Museum. She sits on the Dean’s Business Council and the MBA Advisory Board for the University of Illinois College of Business and the College of Business Administration Advisory Board for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a board member and past president of the Chicago chapter of the Business Marketing Association.
A native-Nebraskan, Ms. Poggenpohl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an MBA from the University of Illinois-Champaign. She lives in Chicago with her husband, Dr. Stephen Steiner, and their two sons, David and Eric.
