Research Environment

The emphasis of the Finance PhD program is on research, and the purpose of the program is to train students to become productive researchers and prepare them for successful academic careers. The environment of the Finance Department facilitates this by providing for close interaction between the faculty and students. The faculty works intensively with students, offering their time, expertise, and guidance. As part of this process, Professors and students frequently collaborate in joint research and publication.

To enable this research, the Finance Department provides access to a wide range of databases and computing facilities, and online and library resources. PhD-level courses in economics, finance, and statistics provide an appropriate foundation. Beyond coursework, a series of seminars on a variety of topics are presented by faculty members and outside speakers. They discuss their current research, providing students with opportunities to learn about the newest ideas in finance. Students also take turns presenting their research to a mixed student and faculty audience at the weekly PhD student research seminar
