Julian Simon Faculty Fellow in Business
Director, Center for International Business Education and Research
Associate Professor (Law, Institute for Genomic Biology)
Greetings. I joined the Strategy group in the College of Business at the University of Illinois in 2001, after earning my Ph.D. in international business at the University of Michigan Business School. I also hold appointments in Law and at the Institute for Genomic Biology. I am also Director of the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). Last year, I coordinated the Science and Technology in the Pacific Century initiative as a Resident Associate of the Center for Advanced Study. My research, teaching, and outreach activities focus on global strategies for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Research
My primary research streams examine inter-organizational relationships, the management of technology and innovation, organizational economics, and the economy and institutions of Japan. Use the menu or click here for more information.Teaching
I currently teach classes in strategy and technology management. In the past, I have taught courses in international economics (University of Michigan) and competitive intelligence with a focus on Japan (Ford, General Motors, and others). Click here for more information.Life outside work
I am lucky enough to have a wonderful wife and two great kids. They are remarkably patient with everything that comes with being an associate professor. In my spare time, I enjoy basketball, weight-lifting, and eating good food.Software
Stata is my favorite statistical package and jEdit is my favorite text editor for editing Stata files. So, I've written this mode file for editing Stata files in jEdit (you may need to use "Save link to disk" to get this file). I have also written mkcorr, which produces tab-delimited output of descriptive statistics and correlations. To install, issue the command, "ssc install mkcorr, replace" from within Stata.Links
