Dear Fellow Alumni:

It is with great pleasure that I write you as President of your Alumni Association. I am truly honored to serve in this capacity. I have watched the association grow and change during the fifteen years that I have been a member of the board. But some good things we do have been institutionalized and I am pleased to encourage you to participate in one of our long-standing traditions. On behalf of the college and the Commerce Alumni Association, I want to extend a personal invitation to each of you to mark your calendars now for October 16, 1999, when the Fighting Illini will take on Minnesota at Homecoming. I look forward to meeting with each of you personally when you attend our Homecoming Tent Party. The present kick-off time is 11:10 a.m. We will gather in the tent starting at about 9:00 a.m. Here's an opportunity to meet with old friends and learn what's going on at the college. As always there will be great food and guaranteed fun. With luck, there will also be great football. Call the college's alumni office at 217-244-6669 to make reservations and for more information, or check our Web site at

Last year we launched a new Commerce merchandise program. I hope many of you have already purchased some of the items and will sport them at the tent party. For information about ordering, please check out our Web page.  This is an exciting time in the life of the college. I hope many of you will find time to come to campus and drop by the college, or call or visit the CBA alumni office and learn about the new developments, including the renovation of Commerce West. The undergraduate program continues in the top ten nationally.

At this time I want to welcome our newest alumni, the Class of 1999. On behalf of the board, I invite all of you to become active members of our association. To those of you in the Chicago area, please consider this a personal invitation to attend the many Young Alumni activities we sponsor. Check out the calendar in this newsletter and on the Web. Return to campus when you can and stay connected. Let us hear how you are doing and what you are doing. And let us know what we can do for you to make the ties stronger. To those of you who have cast a wider net and left the Chicago environs, you can still be involved by taking part in the Illini Club activities in your area. There are branches in most major metropolitan areas.

In closing, I look forward to a busy year, planning activities that I hope will attract a large number of you. Please send me your comments, ideas, and so forth. I can be reached at 312-836-5201 or send your thoughts to me via the alumni office at 470K Commerce West, College of Commerce, 1206 South Sixth Street, Champaign, IL 61820.

Warmest regards,

Patrick Rea
