September 24, 2002 -- News Brief
Students from all curricula in the College of Business attended the Career Fair held September 17 and 18 at the Chancellor Hotel in Champaign. More than 160 companies booked tables to recruit members of the class of 2003 and to advertise internships for next summer. Over 2,700 students signed up for the event, some attending both days.
Kathy Oakley Kersten, selling manager from Marshall Field's, was on hand to present a $10,000 check to Business Career Services Director Lois Meerdink to support the efforts of the BCS office and the college's Minority Commerce Association (MCA).
Half the funds will be used by MCA for scholarships and to support a leadership workshop.
The remainder will be used by BCS to support a database of corporations used by students to research potential employers, to access a self-assessment tool to help students determine their career focus, and to underwrite an informational brochure advertising the services of the undergraduare career office.
