Business Student Wins Big Playing Golf
Champaign’s News Gazette reported on Sunday, November 25, that Luke Guthrie ‘13 earned $695,265 and his PGA card last summer. Despite his golfing success, Guthrie returned to school this fall to finish his degree requirements. Over the past four years, all Illini golfers have finished their degrees.
Mike Small ’89, golf coach for Illinois, spoke highly of Guthrie’s abilities. “He plays with no fear. He’s so mentally strong. That’s his biggest asset.”
Eric Neuman, an assistant professor of business administration who taught Guthrie in fall 2011: Organization design and environment, said, “Knowing Luke, it’s great. He deserves it. He’s worked really, really hard both in school and on the course. He’s a guy who deserves everything he gets.”
