Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation Launches Career Day

10/11/2007

CHICAGO (October 4, 2007) –  Approximately 80 Midwest college students interested in the commercial real estate field will participate in the first Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation semi-annual Career Day on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 11-12, 2007.  The event, planned jointly by the foundation and student leaders of real estate clubs at Marquette University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, features the opportunity to spend 24 hours in Chicago immersed in the commercial real estate business, which will include presentations from prominent retail developers, a field trip to an active project site, and round table discussions with industry mentors.

Students participating in the program are from Marquette University, The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, DePaul University, The University of Illinois Chicago, John Marshall Law School, Roosevelt University, and Northwestern University.  They were selected through an application process that was organized by the program’s two student leaders Patrick Biernacki, a senior at Marquette University, and Alan Lagunov, a junior at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Finance '09). Both are leaders of the real estate clubs at their respective colleges.

The program begins Thursday evening at Maggiano’s Chicago with a welcome reception and dinner featuring keynote speaker David Bossy, president of the Chicago-based retail development and brokerage firm Mid-America Development Partners.

The Career Day will continue the next morning in a tour with Chicago-based residential developer Related Midwest and its project Roosevelt Square, a six-phased mixed-income/mixed-use development on Chicago’s southwest side.  The tour will include a panel discussion with the project’s development team.

Finally, the Career Day will wrap up at Chicago’s Standard Club on Friday afternoon with a lunch, roundtable discussions featuring many of Chicago’s senior real estate professionals, and an interview session with John Bucksbaum, chairman of the Chicago-based real estate investment trust (REIT) General Growth Properties, Inc., and immediate past chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation Career Day is being co-sponsored by corporate partners Related Midwest, Pine Tree Commercial Realty LLC, and Bovis Lend Lease Inc., with additional contributions from the College of Business at Marquette University, the College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and alumni donations from the University of Illinois’ Real Estate Alumni Forum.
