Symposium Honoring Professor Rashad Abdel-Khalik

In recognition of Professor A. Rashad Abdel-Khalik’s far-reaching contributions to the field of accounting over the past 40 years, National Taiwan University is hosting a symposium in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics (APJAE) in his honor.  The symposium will be in late December in Taiwan.

Entitled “The APJAE Symposium on Accounting in Honor of Professor A. Rashad Abdel-Khalik,” the symposium is sponsored by the Department of Accounting, National Taiwan University and the Department of Accountancy, City University of Hong Kong.
 
Over the course of his career, A. Rashad Abdel-khalik (’72, PhD Accountancy) has made numerous significant contributions to accountancy thought.  His research is widely published in scholarly journals, and he has served as editor of The Accounting Review and founding editor of the International Journal of Accounting Literature.

Ira Solomon, R.C. Evans endowed chair in business and head, Department of Accountancy, noted that Abdel-khalik’s research on financial reporting is particularly noteworthy for its unparalleled depth and breadth as well as its methodological rigor.  He further notes that Rashad’s contributions are exemplified and amplified by the long list of doctoral students he has supervised and mentored over the years.

Abdel-khalik is a professor of accountancy and the Director of the V. K Zimmerman Center for International Education and Research in Accounting at the University of Illinois, College of Business. He earned his undergraduate degree in commerce from Cairo University, an MBA in Accounting and an MA in Economics from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a PhD in Accountancy from the University of Illinois.
