For the second straight year, a student team from the College of Business Department of Accountancy advanced to the national finals of the PricewaterhouseCoopers xACT competition. The University of Illinois xACT team consisting of Jared Marchiando, Julia Buhnerkempe, Kassandra Hasty, Allison LaBelle and Adam West will be competing in the national finals in New York City on January 22-23, 2009. xACT (short for extreme accounting) is the PricewaterhouseCoopers xTREME Case Competition designed to give students experience and exposure to real world accounting/auditing issues.
Competition to make the national finals is fierce with entrants from 43 participating schools. Five schools are selected for the finals and only one walks away the national champion. However, each team who makes it to the xACT national finals receives $10,000 and an all expense paid trip to New York City. The experience students get is priceless.
Marchiando, Buhnerkempe, Hasty, LaBelle, and West will get to interact with PwC Partners and some of the most promising accounting students from around the country. They will explore difficult accounting issues in a high pressure environment designed to challenge students and organizers alike.
The College is proud of our excellent team and look forward to cheering them on in January. Congratulations!
