Flash Index released for December
The Flash Index of Economic Growth, released monthly by economist J. Fred Giertz, indicated that the Illinois economy ended on a "down note." The index fell to 97.8 in December from its 98.0 reading in November. When the index is below 100, the economy is in decline. According to Giertz, the recession is modest by historical standards.

Japanese MBA students create website
Second-year Japanese students in the Illinois MBA Program collaborated to create a website in Japanese that introduces the Illinois MBA program to prospective students from Japan. Read what prompted the creation of the site and how it was managed and implemented.

CCBA Annual Report online
The 2001 Annual Report is online. Donors and friends of the college are honored in the report. (Donor lists are not included online.)

Gentry honored by Midwest Finance Association
Jim Gentry, professor of finance and IBE Distinguished Professor of Finance, was honored in January with the first MFA Life-Time Achievement Award. The association also renamed their annual CFO Breakfast in Gentry's honor.

Ferber receives award
Marianne Ferber, professor emeritus of economics, was honored by the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession at the Allied Social Science Association Convention in Atlanta recently. Professor Ferber was named a co-recipient of the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award, which honors a person who has furthered the status of women in the economics profession. She shares the Shaw award with former Illinois colleague Francine Blau now at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Wansink again in the news
Brian Wansink, associate professor of business administration, was interviewed in early January by the Fox2 affiliate in St. Louis for a show to be aired during sweeps week in February 2002.

CCBA represented in Olympic torch run
Being selected to carry the Olympic torch is an honor and CCBA was well represented!

Dean to speak at Y seminar series
If you are in Champaign on March 26th, consider attending Dean Avijit Ghosh's presentation on the future of business education at the YMCA's Know Your University seminar series. The lecture begins at noon at 1001 South Wright Street.

Cozad Lecture scheduled for early April
The fourth annual V. Dale Cozad Lecture in Entrepreneurship will feature CCBA alumnus Jeff Margolis, chairman, CEO, and president of The TriZetto Group. TriZetto offers a broad portfolio of healthcare IT products to more than 500 payers, providers, and benefits administrators. Scheduled for April 9 in room 141 Wohlers Hall, the Cozad lecture is open to the public.
