Research
Research
and Learning Centers at the University of Illinois are designed to address
the needs of students, faculty, and practicing professionals by providing
teaching, research, and service programs in a variety of fields. These
programs are designed to afford learning opportunities for students, advance
faculty research, and offer practical solutions to the problems of business
and industry. The College of Business Office of Research currently operates
twelve such centers.
Office
of Accounting Research (OAR)
Paul Beck, Director
The
office was founded in 1983 to coordinate, facilitate, and disseminate
the results of research endeavors in the field of accounting. Its activities
include two major symposia, a research forum and professional speaker
series, and a lecture series.
Office
for Banking Research (OBR)
Charles M. Kahn
and George Pennacchi,
Directors
The
purpose of OBR is to raise awareness of research issues related to banking
and financial institutions among academic researchers and professionals
and to serve their needs through conferences, seminars, and publications.
Office
of Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OBIE)
Huseyin
Leblebici, Acting Director
OBIE
was established to increase the understanding of the innovative and
entrepreneurial process and to disseminate that knowledge to the business,
educational and policy-making communities. OBIE accomplishes this goal
through activities that fulfill three programmatic objectives: to encourage
and conduct research, to promote curriculum development, and to provide
public service in areas related to entrepreneurship.

of Economic and Business Research (BEBR)
Gregory
Northcraft, Interim Director
BEBR
is a research and service unit that serves the college, the university,
and the citizens of the state through research, publications, and outreach.
Center
for Information Technology and E-Business Management (CISTM)
Mike J. Shaw, Director
Established
in 1997, the Center for Information Technology and E-Business Management
is an interdisciplinary unit that fosters research and instruction on
the use of information technology for effective electronic business.
The Center draws upon faculty expertise from the College of Business,
the College of Engineering, and the National Center for Supercomputing
Applications.
Center
for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)
Glenn Hoetker, Director
The
purpose of CIBER is to promote the study of international business,
foreign language, and culture within the college and in other units
on campus, to provide international training for regional businesses
operating internationally, and to foster research to improve the teaching
and practice of international business. Its activities include course
and curriculum development; interdisciplinary conferences, seminars,
and workshops; faculty and student exchange programs and internships;
short courses directed at business professionals; and outreach programs
for other institutions in the state.
Office
of Organizational Research (OOR)
Gregory Northcraft,
Director
The
purpose of this office is to facilitate and coordinate research on organizational
practice by College faculty and doctoral students, as well as within
a network of organizational scholars on campus. OOR's activities include
an electronic bulletin board and email network, a speaker series, graduate
student research support, and annual conferences and workshops.
Office
of Real Estate Research (ORER)
Roger Cannaday,
Acting Director
ORER
has four primary goals: 1) the sponsorship of high quality research
on all aspects of real estate, 2) the dissemination of the information
generated by the sponsored research to real estate professionals and
the general public, 3) the contribution of useful information to public
policy debates regarding real estate issues, and 4) support for the
real estate education program at the University of Illinois.
