Net Impact Hosts William Balckburn
by Roselyne Yao
On April 15th, 2008, Net Impact proudly hosted William Blackburn J.D., author of The Sustainability Handbook-The Complete Management Guide to achieve social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Mr. Blackburn spoke about “Sustainability- A Practical Approach for Business and Universities” by drawing from his 35 years of experience in environmental and sustainability management, which includes his former role as vice president and chief counsel of Environment, Health and Safety and sustainability leader at Baxter International. He especially touched on the sustainability movement in the news, explaining why companies are going green, how sustainability trends affect organizations, how organizations (including businesses and universities) are moving towards sustainability, and ended with lessons and best practices to consider.
We had the chance to welcome a classroom full of students, faculty members, as well as Ms. Gretchen Winter, Executive Director of the Center for Professional Responsibility, and Mr. George Vander Velde, Director of the Illinois Waste Management and Research Center.
Thank you to all who attended this event. We hope you enjoyed learning more about sustainability in the business and academic arenas, and we hope that Mr. Blackburn’s interactive lecture inspired you to make a positive impact in your communities.
